Question
Dear Sir,
My son graduated high school in 2009. Did one semester at a community college. He would like to enlist in the Marines as active duty. In talking to two recruiters, both told him he would not qualify since he has been out of high school to long. That did not seem to make sense to me. I was able to talk with an active Marine who just finished recruiting duty and he said to go speak with another recruiter and let him know we are aware of quotas. He said being out of high school since 2009 was not a problem. We called another recruiter and basically received the same info. Have they met their quotas just from newly graduated high schoolers? Will he ever have a chance at joining?  This has been his dream since he was a little boy. Your advice as what to do at this point would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

Answer
Quite likely, yes, the quota is full at this point for your area.  Service wide recruiting goals are topping well over 100 percent.

My suggestion is to stay in contact with the recruiters, and on the 1st of October, he personally goes into the RS ready to sign and ship.   (1 Oct is the start of the new FY).

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
