Question
Our daughter is being seperated from the Marine Corps for medical reasons.  She has been told she has asthma due to several weeks of pnumonia in bootcamp.  She was also told that she would be given a re-enlistment code.  The process starts on Monday.  I'm assuming she has to be cleared medically of the asthma (which shouln't be an issue since she has never had it a day in her life).  I understand after reading several posts that we will know exactly what she can do once she is given that code.  My question is, if she is allowed to reenlist, how long does she have to wait?  Someone told her a year. After all of her struggles and hard work, we are all so bummed!  Most of all, her!
Thanks in advance!

Answer
Samantha:

Good chance that after a year she'll be able to try again....as long as it's not actual asthma, which is a total DQ for enlistment.   If that is the diagnosis, you'll need to disprove it with your own medical professionals.  This DOES happen from time to time, but I well understand your (and her) disappointment.

By all means keep me updated.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
