Hello, I was wondering if a service member of the Marines has 5 yrs in and ha been out for 5 yrs can rejoin? He has a few credit issues but nothing serious. He has a 1A code on his DD214 and various awards, accommodations and recommendations. He was a SGT, would he lose rank?

Usually the time limit for re-enlistments is one year.  If his Discharge papers says he's eligible to rejoin, he can probably get a waiver to re-enlist.  An RE-1A code is about the best one can hope for.  It means exactly - RE-1A - Individuals with over 6 years of service for pay. Fully qualified for enlistment.

He would not have to do Basic Training all over again because he still knows how to march, salute, etc.  He will have to go to a tech school again because things change a lot in 5 years.  He would likely lose one stripe.
