Question
My problem is this.I have fully enlisted in the guard oath and all and been in since October. So here is my problem, I have already told them about all of my charges that i have but i failed to tell them one from late 2006 ,early 2007 (public intoxication)I completely forgot about it and is minor compared to my DUI's I had and they know about these. But I ship SOON and don't know if I should tell MEPS about it because my recruiter told me not to worry about it since my MOS (infantry) doesn't require a security clearance and since I haven't been contacted about it.So what should I do, I don't want my military career to end when it is just getting started, and what will happen if I tell them on shipping day and can they charge me with fraud enlistment?? Please help me!!

Answer
At this point, telling them will result in a discharge.  If meps or anyone else asks why you did not divulge it becasue it showed up ona  background check, you need to play dumb and say you totally forgot about it, it may have slipped thru the cracks on reports.  Just say you forgot all about it if it is found out about.  You will be asked to write statements about it, and just say you forgot, plain and simple.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
