Question
Hello,
My husband is currently serving in the Marine Corps. He really wants to make it a career, but he has trouble keeping the weight off. He works out 6 days a week (running 6 miles a day/P90X) and he eats fairly well, but it just doesn't seem to be doing anything. I asked him if he's gotten his thyroid checked, but he is hesitant to do that because he thinks he'll get discharged. My question is will he get discharged if it is his thyroid? He's great at what he does (infantry), so are they willing to discharge him?

How long has he been in the USMC? The more time and money they have invested in him, the better. If he is fairly new, then the Corps may decide it's cheaper to let him go than it is to treat him lifelong. However, it may not be something as serious as hypothyroidism, so he should consult a physician anyway.
