Question
I went to MEPS along with my best friend to take the ASVAB and complete all the other test the next day to enlist in the Army.  We both scored close to a 90 on the test. The next day we got lost in the shuffle and I didn't see him again until I was about to be sworn in.  I know that we both had all 1's on our physical requirements but he was told that some more tests had to be run.  My question is, if you are sworn in that very day does that mean you passed your drug test?  I believe he may have smoked some pot a week or two before but never told me.  It has been 9 days since we went and he hasn't heard anything from his recruiter and he is too afraid to call our recruiter.

Answer
Drug tests take 5-7 days to come back.  If one is positive on a drug test, the 1's change to a 3 on the last number.  And he will never get to join the military, any branch, ever (as of right now).

If more tests had to be run, he did not have a 1 on all his medical data, if there are 1's all the way across, one is cleared to enlist.

he should call his recruiter and find out whats up.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
