Question
QUESTION: My son filled out all forms and provided all docs. He has had no law enf or court issues; graduated from HS; and scored very well on the ADSVAB. He had surgery five yrs ago. Motorcycle accident in the dirt resulting in the removal of 5" of intestine. Fully recovery and played baseball for 3 more yrs. Provided all medical records in totality.

He wants to serve in the USMC and started the process over 6 months ago. The last two months, his recruiter is almost non-existent; fails to return calls; and has either no answers or tells him he needs to fill out more forms or "new forms".

This does not seem very professional or honest.  Your thoughts?

ANSWER: Mitch:

The forms thing doesn't make much sense.  What is the status of your son?  Has he gone to MEPS and been disqualified?  Is he waiting on waivers?  There are a bunch of things here that lead me to believe that's whats going on, there is perhaps a waiver in the works.

Also, if you aren't happy, you can always ask to see the Recruiters boss, the station NCOIC, to find out the 'rest of the story' or what, exactly, is going on.  That's what I'd do.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: OK. Short follow up. His medical was sent to Navy doctors for review. His medical issue was the intestine thing caused by the m/c accident which was years ago.

How long does this medical review take?
And what is your assessment of this medical from the past affecting his ability to get in now?

Answer
Mitch:

Figure on a minimum of 90 days for the medical review.  If it comes sooner, that's unusual.  Honestly...not being a doctor, I really don't know.  This might be one of those cases that requires far more intensive review than the norm.  The gov'mint, as you well know (or should...) takes it's own sweet time about things, and this is no different.

Keep me updated, if you don't mind, I'd like to know the outcome myself.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
