Question
My son is in the Navy ROTC program. As far as I know his only problems have been academic. He was put on leave of absence once but made up the courses and was reinstated. He was due to graduate and commmisioned this spring and was already assigned to a duty station. The last course of the last quarter he received a failing grade and he won't graduate on time. A staff review board has said they will recommend he be disenrolled even though he has plenty of time to make up the course since he will be on inactive ready reserve until October. If his commander approves the board recommendation what are his options? He still desprately wants to be a Navy officer. Would a appeal of the decision if succesfull be apparent on his personnell file?
If an appeal fails what is in store besides owing the tuition? Is there a service alternative to owing the tuition?

Answer
Vince,
I hate to try and give you false hope but I've seen these go both ways.  Most of the time they are allowed to make it up and still become an officer, but I've also seen it go bad.

An appeal would definitely go on his record, but not so anyone would notice.  If it comes to that, definitely pursue an appeal.  He's come to far not to.

I wish him luck,
Colonel H
