Question
I am a convicted felon. A man was dealing heroin on campus and raped the girl I was dating at the time, I lost my temper and kicked him in the chin, breaking his jaw. The final judgement is that I am on probation for the next three years, after which the record will be permanently expunged. I have never before been convicted of so much as a parking ticket. I have two questions.

1. by the time it takes the probation to run out will I be able to 24, will I be too old to join the military and still have the opportunity for a career?

2. Is it possible for me to join the ROTC program and the national guard in the mean time?

Answer
As a convicted felon, you can never do anything with the military, ROTC or event he National Guard.  Expungement doesnt really matter.  Unless you were found not guilty or the case was dismissed before trial, you are banned from the military for life.

Sorry.

If anyone tells you anything different, they are wrong or lying.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
