Question
Good afternoon, sir, i have a question regarding chapter 13 discharge. My unit is dropping the hammer with chapters recently and have been favoring chaptering soldiers for pt failure. I have been struggling lately with the run on my pt test due to a recent injury. I am not giving up and am doing everything i can to pass but im the kind of person who likes to know exactly what i am getting into. Now, onto my question! If i do receive a Chapter 13 discharge, i understand there is a possibility of honorable but more than likely it with by general under honorable. I have been in for 16 months, I have no negative counseling statements, I have been to soldier of the month boards and have been a very good soldier, other than pt. Also if i do get chaptered with a general under honorable will i receive travel pay to my home of record or any kind of assistance with the cost of moving back home? I appreciate you taking time to answer my question and look forward to hearing back from you!

Answer
Graham,
Yes, they will pay for your trip home, to your home of record as listed on your entrance documents.  No cash, just the trip.  It is in your best interest to get a General Under Honorable Conditions discharge or any kind of honorable.  I know of a fellow who was given a GUHC discharge and he was able to buy a house.  His friend who had a Dishonorable discharge applied for a house loan and was rejected.
Thanks for the time you were inu,
Colonel H
