Question
My mother as recently decided to move in with our family. We live on a military base. Is she allowed to live with us? Do we need to add her as a dependent? If so, Do we have to show we pay more than 50% of expenses because she is just now moving in? Any help would be great.

It's easier for all concerned to have her made your dependent. Plus it's financially better for you. Without this she can't have an I.D. card and therefore can't use the base facilities like PX, commissary, hospital, library, bowling alley, golf course, etc. She can't even get on base without an I. D. card. If she is declared your legal dependent the 50% rule won't matter. A lot of elderly parents are dependents primarily because they're unable to live alone after a spouse dies. When you apply for her I.D.card they can answer your questions or direct you to the appropriate personnel office.
