Question
I asked a National Guard recruiter today if I am eligible for a drug waiver and said that shouldnt be a problem. My question is how do I get a chance at airborne in my contract? Im joining infantry if that helps. I also want to know how hard will it be if I tried to transfer to the Army. I don't want to be reserve, its just the National Guard is the only one that wants me.

One more thing, do recuiters really like it when people try to "demand" or "fight" for the contract they want? Not in a stuck up way but if you cant get me my contract I wont sign kind of person?

Answer
What kind of drug waiver, a usage waiver or a convictin for posession?

use wiaver can be granted.

You will not get airborne in the Guard usually unless your state Guard actually has an Airborne unit.  But you can ask, and if it is available at the day you go to MEPs, then you can get it.  Your recruiter cannot normally guarantee it.

You should not demand anything.  The minute a recruit demands anything from me, he goes to the bottom of the stack.  Recruits (future privates) should never tell an NCO what to do.

You will most likley not get transferred to the Army.  The Guard is not a back door in the Army.

Expertise

I am a National Guard recruiter , been doing it for seven years and am a subject matter expert on qualifications for National Guard and I keep up to date on Regular Army regs and programs. I was in the Navy for 4 years and have 13 years in the Guard. I will not sugar coat my answers to you. They are usually short and to the point. If you need more in depth, ask me. Because each situation is different, alot of times you need to actually talk to a recruiter and let them evaluate your situation in person, by looking at your documents, issues etc. If I suggest this, it would be in your best interest to do so. Finally...thank you for your interest in serving this great nation of ours. Very few people can actually make the cut to serve let alone choose to do so. So thank you for wanting to and hopefully you will get a chance. Whatever branch you choose, thank you and good luck.
