Question
I am prior service Army.  I recently joined the Airforce reserve. I want to go back Active Duty.  Everyone that I call says there is no way.  It's impossible.  Is there anything you can do to help me?

Answer
Hi Katherine,

What everyone has told you is correct. The active duty Air Force has announced that they plan to cut the active duty Air Force size by 40,000 airmen between now and 2009. As part of this "draw down," they are accepting very, very, very, very, very, very, very few prior service applicants for active duty. About the only ones who have a chance in Hell are those who are already AFSC qualified in jobs that the active duty Air Force consider *EXTREMELY CRITICAL* (Pararescue, Combat Controller, and Linguists, at this time).

Unless you've been through Pararescue School, Combat Controller School, or Linguist Training, your chances (between now and 2009, at least) of enlisting in the active duty Air Force as a "prior service" enlistee are pretty much non-existent.
