Question
Hi Rod,
I joined the MTARNG in April 07.  I will be going to college to get my BSN.  The college I will be attending grants you a ASN at the three year mark.  I will be 49 when I earn my associates of science in nursing.  Can I then apply for a commission in the National Guard?  I have 6 years active and will have 3 years of drilling with the Guard when I trun 49.  I can still get my 10 years of service in as an officer before I hit 20 years.  I just want to know if 49 is to old and I would be wasting my time.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Mike,

The maximum age for nurse commissions in the U.S. Army (including the U.S. Army Reserves and Army National Guard is age is age 46.

However, waivers are routinely granted for those with previous military service, so I think your chances are pretty good, considering the Army (and ANG) needs nurses.

Hope this helps!
