Question
I have a friend who lives in Tahiti. His son is about ready to enter college and is an honor student and desires to become a pilot. Is it possible for him to qualify for admission into the U.S. Airforce Academy or does he need to become a U.S. Citizen first?  Are there any other options available to him since his country does not have an airforce or any such training available?

Answer
Hi Hughfinkle,

I'm sorry, but in order to be a pilot in the Air Force (or any other branch), one must be a commissioned officer.  In order to become a commissioned officer in any branch of the U.S. Military, one must be a United States Citizen.  Federal law requires this.

In order to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy (or any other U.S. Military Academy), one must also be a U.S. Citizen.

For more information about the United States Military, feel free to visit my U.S. Military Information Site at:  http://usmilitary.about.com

Hope this helps!
