Question
Hi, my fiance is leaving for BMT for the Air Force in January.  I hear about a lot of soldiers and marines in Iraq, but are there a lot of airmen there, too?  I am just wondering what the chances of him being sent to Iraq and how long Air Force deployments last?  Thank you very much.

Answer
Hi Mary,

There are hundreds of Air Force personnel deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, and other areas in the Gulf Region (such As Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, etc.). Other possible deployment areas include Kosovo and Bosnia.

His deployment chances depend a lot on what job he has. Some Air Force jobs deploy more than other Air Force jobs. Most Air Force deployments to the Gulf area last between 4 and 5 months, but some deployments last as much as 12 months.

Hope this helps!
