Question
Hi,
I'm not sure if you would know much in about being a pilot in the airforce. I just wanted to know if getting PRK will permanently disqualify you from being a pilot. I know LASIK will. The problem I have is that I want to be a fighter pilot for the airforce but I don't have perfect vision. I wanted to get this fixed so that I could be a top pilot. I want to fly jets etc. Is there any way I could do this with or without corrective eye surgery?

Thanks,
Shay

Answer
Hi Shay,

Funny you should ask this today. I just posted an article on my U.S. Military Information Site, that explains that the Air Force has just changed their policy about LASIK for individuals applying for flight training. For details, see: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airforce/a/pilotlasik.htm

In any event, I don't know who told you that you had to have "perfect vision" to become an Air Force pilot, in the first place. This has never been the case. For details, see my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/genjoin/a/pilotvision.htm

Hope this helps!
