Question
I was wondering if it is possible to join the Army or Marines with a GED. If it is possible, I would like to know how far you can move up in rank with a GED in the Army or Marines. Also, how hard would it be to join either the Army or Marines with a GED? Thank you.

Answer
Hi John,

Of all the services, the Army accepts the most GEDs. About 25 percent of current Army enlistments are those with a GED. At present, the Marine Corps only accepts about 10 percent of their annual enlistments among those with a GED, and to even be considered among that 10 percent you have to score a 50 or greater on the ASVAB.

Assuming you're accepted for enlistment, whether or not you have a GED or a high school diploma makes no difference for promotion, among the enlisted ranks.

Hope this helps!
