Question
Do you have to be married to qualify for base housing, or can engaged couples live on base in family housing?  Thanks.

Unfortunately, the military doesn't accept promises or engagements to get married, they have to see the paper in hand.  What my wife and I did was have two weddings.  We had what we called the "paper" wedding, done by a justice of the peace.  It got the paperwork necessary to get my allowances started and get us into base housing.

Then we had our "church" wedding, with family flying out and all the dresses, flowers, tuxedo's, etc.

Good luck on getting married, and be sure to take your marriage license to the MPF to start all those spousal benefits.
