Question
QUESTION: I've always been interested in joining the Marine Corps. It's my dream. I know there is absolutely no way I can complete USMC training without dropping dead. Even with preparations that I do on my own time (like running every morning and constant exercise), I'm not able to do this yet. I'm ten lbs over the USMC standards and it isn't going anywhere. So I was thinking about going into the Navy as an MP. Would that be transferrable into the Marine Corps?

ANSWER: E.

Your time served would be transferrable, as well as some of your rank.  That is the good news.  The bad news?  You still have to complete Marine Corps Recruit Training and Basic Combat training.   No waivers allowed for those.

QUESTION: I've spoken with several Marines that have formerly been recruiters (both enlisted and officer) If I wanted to go INTO the USMC as an officer is that possible through the NROTC, PLC, and/or OCS? Thank you for your help.

Answer
E:

Yes, that is possible also, but also be aware that PLC/OCS/TBS, are more physically demanding in some cases than recruit training.   The Marines are a physically demanding service all around, and physical 'drops' in both enlisted and officer training are not uncommon at all.  So you'll need to be physically fit no matter what.

Again, I wish you the very best of luck.  I believe if you put your mind to it, you CAN do it!

Best regards,

Jason

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
