Question
I recently was told that even though the Coast Guard does not have a ROTC program they recognize other branches ROTC's. Is there any validity to this?

Answer
Hi Jamison,

It depends on one's use of the term "recognize."

To the very best of my knowledge, of one participates in the ROTC program of the Army, Air Force, or Navy (including the Navy "ROTC Marine Corps Option,"), and then wants to "transfer" to the Coast Guard and become a commissioned officer, without first becoming commissioned in the service where one graduated ROTC, then that isn't going to happen. The officer would have to either (1) be commissioned under the respective services ROTC program, then separate (honorably), and then apply as a commissioned officer in the Coast Guard, or (2) fail to be commissioned under the respective service's ROTC program (after graduation from the program), and then apply for a commission (as a college graduate) in the Coast Guard, by attending the Coast Guard's OCS program (like any other college graduate).
