Question
Hello,
I am currently a college student but am considering doing some military service after I graduate and before I start a career.  Coast Guard seems most interesting to me, but I have not been able to find any enlistment periods for it.  Does the Coast Guard do 2 year, 4 year, or only career enlistments?
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Matt,

Active Duty enlistments in the Coast Guard are for a minimum period of 4 years.

However, like all the military services, initial enlistments in the Coast Guard obligates one to a total of 8 years of service commitment.  For details, see http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joiningup/a/recruiter4.htm (about 3/4 way down the page, "Enlistment Periods.")

Hope this helps!
