Question
Hello Rod,

I am soon to be married to a wonderful woman who is a Capt. in the USAF. While this is a joyous time in our lives we also have many concerns. You see, I am a convicted felony (12 years ago Burglary & Theft). While I have taken great measures to turn my life around and am now a successful career oriented professional, I have concerns how my past may impact my future wife's career in the military. Can she be penalized for my history? Will we be able to live in base housing? Do I need to register or inform Security Forces? Do you know of any resources that may help answer our questions?

Many Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jay,

Your previous history won't have any impact on whether or not you can live in on-base military housing. You will not have to register or inform Security Forces (unless you are currently on probation).

It also will not have any negative impact on your future wife's career (unless, of course, you continue to choose to break the law, after you are married to her).

Hope this helps!
