Question
I thought that this was an all services question site but the instructions say to ask questions pertaining to the Army.

I want to know about what kind of discharge I will get if I decline to test for promotion in the Air Force?

Answer
Dear David -

Although this is a general military category, Air Force experts will know more about the Air Force issues than I, since all my experience is Army.

However, no one in any service is required to accept a promotion they do not want.  If you are discharged because you reach the "up or out" limit in any service, you will receive an honorable discharge.

However, if you are barred from re-enlistment, and you are discharged, you could, under some circumstances, receive a general or less-than-honorable discharge.

If you have more details, I would be happy to address the specifics.

Best regards,
