Question
Good Morning SGT Powers.
Can a 32 year old Finance Major with a Master's degree and 5 years prior service in the Navy (enlisted) obtain a Direct Commission into the Air Force? If so would any special designations be required, ie CFE, CFE, CPA, CFP?
I recently purchased your Officer Candidate School Tests book (will be taking the AFOQT soon) and found a few errors.  How can I find out the correct information on the errors I found in the book?
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Lauren,

I'm not sure what you mean by "direct commission?" In the Air Force "direct commissions" are usually limited to Chaplains, Doctors, Nurses, and lawyers.

In the past five or six years, to become a non-rated (ie, not a pilot or navigator) officer in the Air Force has pretty much required a technical degree. Very few non-technical degree majors have been selected.

I'm disappointed with the final results of the Barron's Guide to Officer Candidate School Tests. The publisher only gave me four days to review the book after it was copy-edited. Considering this book was over 900 pages long, that wasn't nearly enough time, so -- yes, many errors snuck through.

If you note any errors, you can email me at usmilitary.guide@about.com, and I'll send you the correct information.

Hope this helps!
