Question
This is Sam 24. I am currently in the enlistment process for the United Sates Marine Corps.  I have had to get various waivers on things.  I have answered all the answers for pre-enlistment as accuratly and truthful as I could.  One being "have you ever attended drug rehabilitation" in which I answered yes.  I was only about seventeen and it was only for marajuana.  Yet I was attending the classes with hardcore drug addicts.  I was young and stupid and may have lied about my drug use in the class to "fit in" with the other kids.  I have already signed the necessary documents to release the information, being a United States Marine has beens my lifelong dream, would this hinder me in any way?  Would the facility have that information on file?  Can they dig that deep?

Answer
Hi Sam,

Probably not. The fact that you were in drug rehabilitation is a disqualifying factor, and nobody can tell for sure, whether or not a waiver will be approved (for details on on subjective the waiver process can be, see my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/l/blwaivers.htm).

However, the chances that the Marine Corps will get access to your actual session records of your drug rehabilitation program are slim. At most, they will get access to your admission records, and possibly your completion records, which would give only general (not specific) information.

Hope this helps!
