Question
Hello,
I recently got back from MEPS where I was DQed for eyesight. My right eye has a refraction of -10.27 and my left has a refraction of -11.31. It was escalated to the Surgeon General to be waived. The MEPS doctor also recommended a waiver. What do you think my chances are of getting a waiver? I scored an 86 on the ASVAB and everything else passed as far as medical. The job counselor at MEPS said that he sees them come through pretty often and he thinks I have about a 70% chance. My recruiter thinks that I have a 50% chance, you know hope for the best expect the worst. I just want to know if you have heard any cases like this and what the outcome was. Sorry of this was little wordy, I'm just really nervous about it and didn't want to leave anything important out.
Thanks,
Heidi

Answer
Hi Heidi,

I'm sorry, but there is just no way I can say.  Each and every waiver is evaluated individually, based on dozens of individual factors.

A couple of weeks ago, I was dealing with a potential applicant (for the Army), with a refraction error of +-10.  His waiver request was not approved.  Just 5 days prior, I was dealing with a recruit with a refraction error of +-12.  Her waiver request was approved.  There is simply no way to tell, in advance.

Hope this helps!
