Question
I'm starting a collection of Special Forces Memorabilia. I wanted to know if the Marine Force Recon Units were still active. If so what do they wear on their Utilities as identification. Such as unit patches, logos, etc.If not, when were they deactivated and what DID they wear? All I can find are colored division patches and I'm not sure if they wore a tape strip that said FORCE RECON. Any information could help me out. Thanks. Mel

Answer
Melvin:

No Marine Corps unit are authorized shoulder sleeve insignia or any other speciality insignia, other that qualification and/or marksmanship badges, on the dress uniform.  No special name tapes or anything like that.

The colored patches are still made and sold, but not worn on the uniform by Marines, not since 1947, anyway.

Force Recon Marines typically have Navy/Marine Corps jump wings along with a SCUBA bubble they wear on the camo uniform and that's it.  (Those are pins, not patches).

Hope that helps some!

Jason

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
