QuestionHello my name is sharaine, im 24 and i would like to join the military. The only problem is that i dont have a GED or a HSD . do u know if the military have any programs to recieve a GED or u have to get it on ur own?
AnswerDear Sharaine --
Some people do well enough on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB test) to enlist without a high school education, or an equivalency certificate. However, they do not get the best assignments or opportunities when they enlist.
Once you are in, the Army will help you with your educational gaps. But that will take a lot of dedication on your part, because your studies will be mostly after work and on weekends. You will have to show a lot of self-discipline to complete your GED while serving full time in the Army. However, I know many Soldiers who have done that.
My recommendation to you is, complete your GED on your own, and then enlist in the Army. You will be offered better opportunities that way.
Good luck to you!
