Question
I am 21 yrs old and about to  take my ASVAB. I have been told when I go I should know what I want my MOS to be. I eventually want to fly helicopters. What job would you suggest I start out in? I want to stay in the same field. Please e-mail me ASAP!

Answer
Hi Krysten,

Do you have a high school diploma? If you do, why don't you apply directly for the Army's Warrant Officer Flight Training Program (WOFTP)? The Army prefers those who apply for the program to have an associate's degree, but those with a high school diploma are eligible to apply. For details, see the Army's 9D Enlistment Program at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/armyjoin/l/blprogram5.htm

If you are not selected for this program, you would then be eligible to apply for enlistment in the Army as an enlisted member, and then try to re-apply for the WOFTP after you become more competitive (associate degree, etc.). (See: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/warrantofficerjobs/a/053a.htm).

If you decide to enlist first, I would recommend any Army Aviation MOS (see list of Aviation jobs at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjobs/a/15.htm).

Hope this helps!
