Question
Hey my name is Madeline Smith and i am 13 i have always wanted to in the military. The one that im looking at the most is the coast guard. In my career class our teacher wants to know: what we want to do, why do you want to do it, and how much money does it pay. So my question to you is how much does office coast gard make? Thank you always sir, Madeline Smith

Answer
Madeline,

I commend you on wanting to join the military. In the military or the Department of Defense (DoD) all the jobs are paid based on your rank, not by the job. So if you have a Police Officer or a Nuclear Engineer and they both are an E-1 or an O-1 the are paid the same for both jobs.

An Enlisted person at the pay grade of E-1 makes roughly about 1300 dollars a month, an O-1 makes about 2500 per month. The officer position requires a 4 year degree in a technical field for some positions, and general BA in others, Just depends on what you are looking at doing in the CG.

Miss Madeline, I hope that I was of help to you and I wish you well in your future endeavors in the military. Remember that preparation for the military can start now. You must be physically fit, doing that now with school sports will keep you conditioned for BMT or Basic Military Training. The standards in the military are getting more strict and by the time you are of age to enter, I expect that they will be even more so.

Good Luck and I Salute You!!!

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
