-----Question-----
If a person served in the Air Force for 10 years and received an honorable discharge but then when he was in the Air National Guard he received an, Other Than Honorable discharge. Can we use his DD 214 from the Air Force and ignore the Air National Guard or does the Air National Guard (OTH) cancel his Air Force (honorable)? If we used his honorable discharge to qualify him do we have to use his OTH to disqualify him?

-----Answer-----
Hi Demetria,

To "qualify" or "disqualify" him for what?

For a job requirement. He needs an honorable discharge with active duty for at least 24 months which he has from the Air Force. What do we do about the OTH from the Air National Guard does that some how cancel his Air Force Honorable Discharge?

Answer
Hi Demetria,

I'm afraid I don't know, as I don't know the requirements of the company that is looking to hire him.

He has earned an honorable discharge from the Air Force. The OTH from the Air National Guard does not replace this, nor does it cancel it out. He has two discharges -- One is honorable from the Air Force, and the other is "Other Than Honorable" from the Air National Guard. How the employer chooses to treat this is totally up to them.

Hope this helps!
