Question
Hello. My husband is currently in the Navy, he was in sub school in Groton,CT. A week before he was set to leave on his PCS orders he started to get a little scared about going on a sub, he drove home to visit family to try to shake it off. He was gone 3 days and missed watch on one of those days. He now has 2 dates for Captain's mast one for going UA for 3 days and one for missing watch. His petty officers are telling him he is getting discharged for missing watch in a time of war. I do not believe my husband thought through his decision to leave however he does not want to be discharged? Any idea what his chances are?. Thank you very much

Answer
Natashia:

He won't get discharged, both of those sound like 'petty' offenses. Also, you can't get discharged from Captains mast.  He'll likely suffer some sort of punishment such as loss of rank, restriction to base, extra duty, ect.

If he is having issues about the sub service, he needs to let someone know ASAP so he can transfer out.  IIRC, it's all voluntary, even after the school.

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
