Question
I am interested in joining the coast guard and have a few questions about what a my career might be like. First off, I hold a B.A. from a 4 year college, unfortunately it is in theater (I wish I could do that differently). I believe my degree makes be eligible to enter as a commissioned officer. I have several questions. Do Coast Guard officers have any say in where they are stationed? Ideally, I would like to stay in the North Atlantic/ New England area. Also, I am hoping that I would be able to command a small boat, 25' Transportable Port Security Boat (TPSB) or a 25' Defender Class Boats (RB-HS/RB-S), on the equivalent of harbor patrol. Are these choices possible?

Talk to a Coast Guard recruiter, who will give you the information that you are looking for, and put you in touch with an officer recruiter. Officers typically don't have much say in where they are stationed, they go where they are needed. Don't worry about the degree, I've known fighter pilots with MBA's, degrees in Agronomy, English, etc.

Field Radio Operator: MOS 2531. Served as a Platoon Sergeant in a Communications Platoon assigned to MEU Service Support Group 24 (Special Operations Capable). Did a hitch in the Army reserves as an 11B (Infantryman), 3 years. Finished out my career in the Air National Guard as a BioEnvironmental Engineer MOS 4B3X1, did that for a few years.
I"ve been collecting and selling Marine Corps and other military uniforms, medals, and field gear since I was 8 years old.
