Question
QUESTION: My name is rob I'm 17 years old and have parental consent and want to join the usmc. The only problem that concerns me is i have a retail theft charge from last year and am awaiting charges for 1-dui- 1- underage 1- driving past curfew there may be another there all from the same accident ...no felonies ...I really want to get some college creds and my ged so i can leave for basic on sept 10th with my buddy is it possible??
ANSWER: Rob:

First, you'll need to speak to a recruiter, but you will have some serious problems with this lengthy criminal background you've accumulated.  This will require several waivers to get you into the Marine Corps.  If you are going to do this, start now by talking to a recruiter and began working from there.  You also say you do not have a HS Diploma, which is another strike against you.  Your chances, quite frankly, are not very good.  But, talk to a recruiter anyway.  He will tell you for sure.

Best of luck,
Jason

QUESTION: Thanks for your quick response. I have been talking to a recruiter but only for a short time we haven't had afull discussion yet. i had 2 things to ask more though.
1. Would I have abetter shot if I do an expiated online schooling to get my HS diploma.
2. I haven't actually been charged with those others yet can the marines do anything to help the courts ruling if I talk to them before I go to court???

Answer
Rob:

  1.  Yes, you'd have a much better shot going in, if you already had the HS diploma, if you can do it on line, go for it!

 2.  Yes, but you have to be totally honest and upfront with the recruiter, that is the only way he'll be able to help you.  If you do that, you might stand a chance.

Also, if you haven't done so already, go to www.leatherneck.com/forums , and sign up!  Lots of young folks such as yourself, poolees, and Marines associate there.  Some great information on this site, I highly encourage you to do that as well!

Best regards,
Jason

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
