Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/Laser eye surgery

Question
I am getting ready to enlist in the USAFR as a loadmaster on c-17s @ Charleston SC. I plan going back to college once all my training is up, and doing AFROTC while I go to drill on the weekends.  I would like to be a pilot but have one problem; I have 20/300 vision. Any idea if the AF will ever allow people with laser eye surgery become pilots?  I know the Navy will waive it if it is PRK surgery.
Thanks, Jason

Answer
Hi Jason,

There is no way I can guess what the Air Force may, or may not decide to do in the future.

Currently, the Air Force will allow *current* pilots to have laser eye surgery (under their currently "test program"), but will not allow applicants to *enter* flight training if they've had this surgery.

Will this ever change?  Who knows.  Probably depends on the result of the "test program."  How long will the Air Force decide to study it, before making a decision?  Again, who knows?  I certainly don't.
