Question
I see that you have been an intelligence analyst for the last ten years.  I want to join the Marines as a reservist, but I read that I can only have this MOS 0231 listed as an additional MOS(clarify?).  Then after three years it will be listed as my primary MOS. Is this true? Also, what would I do as a reserve intelligence analyst?

Answer
Rick:

I'm not sure where the 'additional MOS' comes into play, since 0231 is a primary MOS.  However the reserves do some things different than active duty.  Where did you get that information from?  It doesn't sound current to me.  That having been said, I'm not a reservist, but I've never heard of it.

You might try going to www.leatherneck.com/forums and posting the question there, as well, lots of reservists, active duty, and poolees frequent the site, it's very good.

You'd do the same thing as a reservist that you would do on active duty;  an Intelligence Specialist basically gathers and collates raw data into a useable product for the commander and the unit.  That is about as good a description I can get into without going into OPSEC issues.

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
