Question
First off I want to say thank you for serving our wonderful country! However I am here to ask a few questions. My husband is away at MCT at Camp Pendelton for the next week and a half then off to MOS school in Pensacola, for cryptology.. my first question is:
1. How long does this school last??
2. If our sons and I move to Florida what is the possibility of him getting to spend the weekends with us?
3. He was prior Navy for 3.5 years so does that make him more likely to be deployed sooner?
4. Do we get BAH while he is at his MCT and MOS, we married after boot camp...
5. What is the typical wait when requesting to live on base?
and Finally....
6. Would you encourage a family to shoot for base housing or off base housing, and what is the main differece??

Answer
Amanda:

 Thank you!

Here are the answers:

1.  I believe it's 26 weeks.  Possibly longer these days.

2.  Weekends shouldn't be an issue.  However, Pensy is expensive to live in, and housing is probably at a premium. Something to consider.  I would advise not moving because you'll be moving again in a short time.

3. No.  His time will come, but it will be dependant on his unit he is assigned to.

4. Yes.  You are eligible for BAH now.

5. It depends on the base.   Housing is assigned by rank.  In some places, the wait can be as long as 2 years, others, 6 months.

6.  My family loved on base housing.  Always apply!  You can always turn it down later, but always, always, apply.

All the best, and good luck!

Jason

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.

Experience

Field Radio Operator: MOS 2531. Served as a Platoon Sergeant in a Communications Platoon assigned to MEU Service Support Group 24 (Special Operations Capable). Did a hitch in the Army reserves as an 11B (Infantryman), 3 years. Finished out my career in the Air National Guard as a BioEnvironmental Engineer MOS 4B3X1, did that for a few years. I"ve been collecting and selling Marine Corps and other military uniforms, medals, and field gear since I was 8 years old.
