Question
My fiancée is in MOS 1142, electrical repair specialist. He has about two months left, and takes the lead for his class. He's been doing awesome. But has been very homesick, and I spoke with some recruiters who told me if he graduates with honors he'll be allowed to pick where he's stationed. I was also was told that if he is stationed on a Marine Base, they wont deploy him. Now are these things true. He wants to believe them, but he feels they're too good to be true. So I need a second opinion. If you could please help, that'd be amazing! Thank you for your time. =]

Answer
Erin:

First, being homesick is natural and normal.

Yes, it is possible he will get to pick his duty station if he graduates high enough in his MOS School.  No, it is incorrect about being deployed.  He's likely to be deployed sooner or later, based on the needs of the Corps.  Lastly, he needs to stop talking to his recruiters and talking to his NCO's in school, they will likely have better and more accurate information at this point, than his recruiters will.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
