Question
Hi Rod,
My husband is a SGT promotable. He is currently an MP. He is working on his BIT(Bachelor Information Technology) in college. He is thinking of getting his MOS changed to Signal Corps so that he can work in a job where he can put his education to some use. And get job experiance so that when his elistment is up in 2011 he will be able to get a civilian job in computers easier. If he does decide to change his MOS, what would he need to do to get it changed. How long would his training be? Where would it be at? What kind of things do Signal Corps do.
As an MP he works all the time so I rarely get to see or talk to him. Would I get more time with him if he were Signal Corp?
Thank you

Answer
Hi Catelyn,

Army MP (Military Police) is MOS 31B. There are several individual MOS's in the Signals Field (see: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjobs/a/25.htm).

Whether or not he would be eligible to retrain out of the 31B MOS into another MOS, depends on the manning level (for his rank) in the 31B MOS, vs. the manning level of the MOS he wishes to re-train into (see: http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/blarmyretrainingop3.htm).

After looking at it, I'm afraid for MOS 31B, he would not be authorized to re-train out of this MOS, as it's listed as an "N" for retraining out. That' means that SGTs are not authorized to re-train out of this field.

Hope this helps!
