Question
My friends son is in Paris Island.  He was supposed to graduate 5 Oct.   I found out from my friend that his son "quit".  That is all he said he was told.   The son was recycled once for a sprained ankle injury that set him back 10 days.  I did not know the Marines allow folks to sign up and then "quit".  Can this be right.  Hhe's being held at Paris Island for a couple weeks for outprocessing but his peers will be Marines on Friday.   Thanks Dave and Tanya

Answer
Dave;

  No, the Marines don't allow you to 'quit'.  However, if when he was recycled, he basically got a bad attitude, and refused to train, the Marines will not mess around with him too much.  They will give him several chances to 'get with the program', and if he doesn't, he'll be discharged with a "Failure to adapt" discharge, meaning he couldn't cut it and they want nothing more to do with him.  It also means he'll be inelgible to enlist in any other branch of service without jumping through mulitple hoops and getting lots of paperwork, etc.

 If he is getting discharged for an unhealable injury, or something along those lines, then that is a different story altogether, but from what you are saying, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Best regards,

Jason

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
