Question
Hello,
I have a close cousin (he practically my brother) in Iraq as a Marine stationed slightly west of Baghdad. Anyway, I have to do a community service project. What I can I do for the Marines overseas? Or the military in general. This is actually a project involving for a club, but I do want to help. I was thinking making like quilts with basic supplies in them...but I don't want to make them if they don't need them and they really needed something eles. Do you know who I would contact if I made about 50 quilts/packs? Thanks,
Christine
Anything suggestions you give-Thank You!

Answer
Christine:

First, thank you for wanting to support the troops overseas.  It means alot, believe me.  The biggest thing they need right now is phone cards, the pre paid kind.  They also ALWAYS need any type of reading material, from books to the latest magazines.  That stuff is always appreciated and used.

My suggestion would be to find out your cousins unit address, and send the packages directly to that unit.  Mark the packages "ATTN SGT MAJ".  The Sergeant Major will make sure the stuff gets to the right people, those who need it most.

Most units have a web page that will also list their unit address as well.

  Good luck, and thanks again.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
