Question
I am in the National Guard and I am going to get married to a Active duty soldier. The thing is he is stationed at Camp Casey, S.Korea and I'm in the Nebraska  National Guard. Would there be a way for me to be with him in Korea?

Answer
Hi Sara,

There are no National Guard units assigned overseas (the National Guard "belongs" to individual STATES, not the Federal Government. Because of that, you could not be transfered to a NG unit in Korea (because there aren't any).

Because it would be pretty much impossible (actually, it would be possible, but very expensive in transportation costs) for you to attend drills and annual duty, you would have to first request a transfer to the IRR (Individual Ready Reserve), before relocating to Korea. Upon your return to the states (any state), you could then request re-instatement to the drilling Air National Guard in that state (assuming there was an available slot in that state for your rank/AFSC).

However, Camp Casey, in Korea, is not a command-sponsored assignment. That means does not pay for Military spouses to accompany the member there. You could relocate to Korea at your own expense, but that can be expensive (see: http://www.osan.af.mil/library/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=6995).
