Question
I am an army aviator diagnosed with Obstructive sleep apnea.  The doctors have tried everything, but nothing is working to get me back on full duty, thus they are sending me to a med board.  I know my flying days are over, but what are my options?  They have talked about reclassing me, but can they put me in a job I don't want? and IF I decided to get out, what could I expect for compensation?

thanks Nick

Answer
Hi Nick,

You'll want to view my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/theorderlyroom/a/medseparation.htm

The Army MEB can recommend up to three MOS's (jobs) that you are medically qualified for. You would then prioritize those choices, and the actual decision would be made by the Army Human Resources Command, based on the "needs of the Army," and your choice priorities.

As for compensation, there is no way to say, with the information given. It would depend on what percentage of disability was established by the MEB, and/or what degree of disability established by the VA.  All of this is explained in the article.

Hope this helps!
