Question
Hello,
I really want to enlist in the Marines, I am 26 years old, I finished my associate of applied science degree and I scored last week 70 on the ASVAB written test. I speak 4 languages (English,German,Spanish and Italian) but the problem is that 2 years ago I had head surgery because of a Kavernoma (Superfluous blood vessel since birth) which was causing me headaches. Now everything is fine I'm not on any medication, I also have no physical limitations. This condition can not happen again and the doctors that preformed the surgery told me that I can do everything without danger of any problems because of the surgery.
Will this disqualify me from enlisting or not?
Thank you very much.

Answer
Max:

You'll need to talk to a recruiter to find out the details. It sounds like you will be ok as far as enlistment goes, but you'll need to have your doctors basically sign off on some paperwork to state that you have no physical limitations.   It'll be up to the military doctors to give the final word on this.

Again, talk to your recruiter and he can get the process moving.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.

Experience

Infantry Rifleman, MOS 0311: 3 years. Marine Barracks Security (Marine Barracks, Annapolis, Maryland(not Embassy Duty): 3 years. Parachutist: MOS 9962: Got my wings in August of 1984. Field Radio Operator: MOS 2531. Served as a Platoon Sergeant in a Communications Platoon assigned to MEU Service Support Group 24 (Special Operations Capable). Did a hitch in the Army reserves as an 11B (Infantryman), 3 years. Finished out my career in the Air National Guard as a BioEnvironmental Engineer MOS 4B3X1, did that for a few years. I"ve been collecting and selling Marine Corps and other military uniforms, medals, and field gear since I was 8 years old.
