Question
I have a private pilots license and a degree in aviation management. I was wondering how much this would help me in becominga pilot in the military? Is having 20/20 vision a requirement? I was also wondering what the different paths were to becoming a pilot. Like going enlisted versus officer?
Hi Justin,
In the military services, pilots are commissioned officers. In the Army, there is an exception as, helicopter pilots can be warrant officers.
You didn't say which military service you were interested in? In all of the services, having a private pilot's license will be an advantage. It means the military can save big bucks, in that they don't have to pay for you to attend basic flight training.
20/20 vision is not a requirement, but there are vision restrictions (see: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/genjoin/a/pilotvision.htm).
