Question
My husband will be out of the Navy in March of 2008 and we will be moving back to our hometown. I've heard rumors that the military will pay the costs of moving back home. Is that correct? Thank you for your advice.

Hi Melinda,

Assuming his discharge is honorable (such as he's getting out after completing his enlistment obligation), then the answer is "yes."

If he is retiring (20 or more years of service), the Navy will pay for his (and his dependents) transportation and household goods shipment to anywhere in the United States.

If he is separating (less than 20 years of service) they will pay for his (and his dependents) transportation and shipment of household goods to his "home of record" (which is the place he originally enlisted at).
