Question
I am a 44y.o. that served 8+ years in the US Navy. I was honorably discharged in July 1989. Is their ANY possibility I can reenlist is any branch of the armed forces? I am in good health and within the ht/wt standards.Navy is my preference but will consider all. Also I do now have a Associte of Science degree.

Answer
Hi Larry,

For prior service enlistments, the general rules (when it comes to age) is that you take your total active duty service time, and you subract it from your current age. In other words, if you are currently 44 years old, and have 8 years of total active duty service time, your equivelant enlistment age is 36.

Unfortunately, that makes you too old to join any of the active duty services, with the exception of the Army, Army Reserves, or the Naval Reserves. Details in my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/enlstandards.htm

Hope this helps!
