Question
I am prior service Army as a 19D cavalry scout.  I am currently in the Navy and about to finish EOD school.  Part of our training pipeline is to go to Benning for jump school.  I want follow on orders to Ranger schol.  How can I do that?  What should I do?  Do you know of any contact numbers?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Ryan,

The primary purpose of Army Ranger School is to provide advanced Ranger Training to Army noncommissioned officers, warrant officers, and commissioned officers who are assigned to an Army Ranger Unit.

The Army will allow members of the other branches to attend Army Ranger school, on a "space available" basis (i.e., if there are any available "slots," after designation of Army Rangers in need of the school), when (a) the service branch applies for a space-A slot, and one is available, and (2) the service branch agrees to pay for the TDY costs of their member attending the school.

It is *very* unlikely that you will get follow-on orders to attend Army Ranger School. In order to attend the course, your unit would have to (1) request a space-A slot, and (2) agree to pay for it. This is different than "Jump School," (which is run by the Army, but is for all of the services). Ranger School is run by the Army, and is for Army Rangers (not for the other services), but other services can pay to send members there, if space is available. The point of contact is your unit training Petty Officer, once you arrive at your first duty assignment. Be prepared to "wait in line," however, as other EOD members, with more time in EOD are probably going to be much higher on the "priority list" for you unit to spend the funds on, than you are. Possibly, after you've held the EOD rating for six or seven years, your unit may decide to pay the cost to send you to Ranger School. I've never heard of anyone in Navy EOD pipeline training attending the training.
