Question
Hi i'm a sophmore in high school and i was wondering about the requirements to become a Navy WSO. I know i cannot become a pilot because of my vision, i don't know how bad it is but i do need glasses. I currently wear contacts. How does the helmet fit with glasses? I Know i have alot of questions but please help me.

Answer
Ni Nicholas,

You may wish to see my Aviator Vision Requirements Page at: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/genjoin/a/pilotvision.htm

You should probably be aware that the Navy doesn't have "WSO's." The term WSO (Weapons Systems Officer) applies to Air Force "back seaters," only.

The Navy has pilots, and "NFOs" (Naval Flight Officers). They are the same as Air Force WSOs, but have a different name. Sometimes the Navy NFOs are affectionally known as "GIBs" (Guy in Back). Collectively, Navy pilots and NFOs are called "Naval Aviators."

Ever wear a full-motorcycle helmet? Well, Military aviation helmets fit pretty much the same way with glasses.
